Marin County Adopts Plastic Free July Resolution
Earlier this week, we joined the Marin County Board of Supervisors as they unanimously adopted a Plastic Free July resolution—reaffirming Marin County’s commitment to reducing single-use plastics and supporting community solutions. We shared how the Cleaner California Coast initiative advances this mission: reaching nearly 3 million people last year, supporting 18 zero-waste events, and working with over 100 partners to build a Coastal Ethic across Marin, Sonoma, and Mendocino.
Our partners at Zero Waste Marin also presented, highlighting the urgent health and environmental impacts of plastic pollution and announcing exciting new initiatives—including training all new County of Marin staff on waste reduction and proper sorting practices. We were especially excited to see the new, clearly labeled bilingual waste receptacles now installed throughout the Marin Civic Center. These bins make proper sorting easy and visible, helping both residents and visitors reduce waste.
This Plastic Free July, we invite you to adopt these simple steps:
Know Before You Go – Use reusable containers, utensils, and bottles
Trash Your Trash – Pack it out, even if wet or smelly
Protect Wildlife – Keep plastic and fishing gear away from habitats
Be Considerate – Don’t overfill bins and take waste with you.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to partner with Zero Waste Marin to produce five bilingual workshops in the coming year—stay tuned for details.
